The concept of “the force” is an extremely popular and widespread idea that we all believe exists in the universe. It is common to find the phrase “it wasn’t my fault” uttered when something goes wrong. This is the force referred to in the quote above.

We make excuses for ourselves and blame others when things don’t go our way. There is nothing wrong with making excuses; we all need them at times. But, saying someone else caused something to happen is not very helpful.

It doesn’t solve the problem or make things easier to deal with. There are many forces at play in our world, but only one can make things better or worse for any one person. If I break my leg today, I will say I was clumsy, but if tomorrow I break my other leg, I will say I was unlucky.

I will still be exactly where I am now even though there are forces at play that would have made things easier or harder if they were different.
